Day 1: Arrive at Ruhengeri
from Kigali you will be taken by our safari staff north to the Volcanoes national park in Ruhengeri where you will have lunch. This journey goes through gorgeous hillsides that beautifully display Rwanda’s landscape. You will spend the night in one of the classy places available there for example Kingi Guest house, Le Bambou gorilla lodge or Mountain gorilla view lodge.
Day 2 and 3: Gorilla Tracking
This will be at the Volcanoes national park. While here you will be required to assemble at the park’s offices very early in the morning after a warm breakfast for briefing before you can set off for the forest. It should be noted that this morning briefing is very essential, you don’t want to be surprised once out there in the wild.
Moving though the base of the Virungas, you will enter the national park under the guidance of a tour guide. Trees dancing to the tune of the wind as they cast dark shadows along the trails welcome you to such an incredible journey in the wilderness. Colourful birds which keep humming as well as the rare golden monkeys that keep swinging from one tree to another will entertain you on your way up the slopes of the mountain. Buffalos and elephants will also be seen through the vents in the thick forest canopy which is a bonus to this gorgeous scenery and gorilla trek.
Once you reach your destination, you will see strong, young, playful gorillas that will welcome you in a language best understood by them and probably the game rangers who have spent enough time with them. Your guide will often let you know the meaning of some of the gestures of these creatures which are more less like humans. It is common to see these gorillas do things we can do like feed their young ones, brush their fur or even put the young ones to sleep.
You will be given time to rest and bond with them though you will not be allowed to get very close to them or even touch them. This is mainly aimed at preventing the spread of zoonotic diseases and to avoid irritating the animals which may think are under attack. Having captured the moments, you will be led back to where our safari staff is waiting for you to drive you back to your residence. This will be the same cycle for day 3 as well.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Tracking
Golden monkeys are the most endangered primates here in the volcanoes and tracking these is one of the best things to do. Seeing them jump up and about will get you very excited wondering how they get to do this every day. After lunch you can choose to lie down and rest or go visiting the surrounding community and get to listen to amazing stories and also see beautiful ornaments and incredible cultural items. You may need to move with some money in case you want to buy something.
Day 5: Hiking in Mount Bisoke
Hiking in Mount Bisoke is such a rewarding and an incredible experience you will encounter for yourself. You will be picked from the park headquarters to Mount Bisoke. Depending on your fitness this hike should not take more than 3 hours. From here you head back for lunch and there after relax and rest.
Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
Visiting Bwindi impenetrable forest national park you will cross the Rwanda-Uganda border. This will be done right after breakfast because this will be quite a journey. On arrival you will be served with something to eat and there after given a place where you will be staying so that you relax and rest. Accommodation is available with places like Lake Mutanda, Buhoma Community Bandas, Chameleon Hill Lodge and Wagtail Eco Lodge.
Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable forest
Like the Volcanoes national park, Bwindi is as well famous for mountain gorillas though the forest is thicker than the one in the volcanoes. Gorilla trekking is thrilling just like the one you had on day 2 and day 3. Just enjoy every moment that passes by because you cannot get enough of it.
Day 8: Departure
You will head back to Rwanda where you will be transferred to Kigali to catch your flight.
