6 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari, Birding and Chimpanzee

This 6 day tour starts and also ends in Rwanda. This takes you to the famous Nyungwe national park which is commonly known for chimpanzee trekking. This rainforest park is located in the southern part of Rwanda and was established in 2004. The park covers an area of 970km2 with an altitude of 3000 above sea level. This national park has 1068 species of plants, 13 primate species, 85 mammals, 32 amphibians, 38 reptiles and 275 species of birds. The tour also includes Volcanoes National Park which is commonly known to harbor over 400 mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, Dian fossey tomb and the Karisoke Research centre. This tour also includes a city tour in Kigali.

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Nyungwe National Park

Upon your arrival at Kigali Airport, the company guide will meet you and give you a briefing about the whole safari. You will start your transfer to Nyungwe national park famous for chimpanzees. As you transverse your way to the park, you might stop to visit the local markets in the city, the palace in Nyanza and many more.  You will as well enjoy the green vegetation along the way to the park which is so stunning. On arrival to the park, check in at your lodge and relax for the evening

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and a guided nature walk

Have breakfast early in the morning, your guide will drive you to the park headquarters to have a briefing about the dos and the don’ts of chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park. This trek starts at exactly 6:00 am and enter the forest to search for the primate species. Have a chance to come eye to eye with the chimps and many monkey species including the silver monkeys, red tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive monkeys as well as the grey cheeked mangabey. the trek will also give you a chance to view many bird species . You will have some good time with the chimpanzees and watch them as the play, feed, and take care of their young ones. After the trek, proceed to your accommodation as you prepare to enjoy a guided walk within the park to view some other wildlife species

Day 3: Return to Kigali and visit the cultural museum

Have breakfast in the morning, and start your transfer back to Kigali. Have a chance to visit the cultural museum as well as the botanical gardens. Have your lunch within the city and enjoy some of the local dishes of Rwanda. After, proceed to the north to Kinigi via the famous Ruhengeri. This place is filled with the rolling hills which make Rwanda so beautiful.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Breakfast early in the morning, start your transfer to Volcanoes National Park which is known to harbor over 400 mountain gorillas , the park has many other animal species including; the golden monkeys, elephants, buffalos and many more. Upon your arrival at the park, enjoy a short guided nature walk which will help you view the wildlife species at a close range. After retire at your lodge as you wait for your dinner.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Have your early morning breakfast at your lodge; your guide will lead you to the park headquarters to be briefed about the dos and the don’ts of gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. This is really an exciting trek which provides good views of the Virunga Mountains in all directions. You will follow a trail that enters the rain forest full of many wildlife species. Some of these include; monkeys, buffalos, elephants, birds and many more. Later, after a great search for these gentle giants, you will come eye to eye with these wonderful primates and be given a full hour to interact with the gentle giants and also take photos. This is the most exciting experience of this two day safari in Rwanda. You will watch them feed, play and jump all over the trees. After your trek, the rangers will escort you back to the lodge to enjoy your late lunch and you prepare to relax for the afternoon or take a community walk around the park to interact with the local people.

Day 6: Departure

Breakfast at the lodge, after start your journey to Kigali , if time allows, enjoy more of the city tour and also do some shopping in some of our local markets for souvenirs. Enjoy your lunch as you await to be transferred to Kigali airport for your flight back home. END OF SAFARI
