On this 6 Day Safari in Rwanda and Primate tracking, you will visit Nyungwe located south west of Rwanda. It is 1000 sq.km big with a huge afro montane forest which houses large troops of chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, beautiful coloured butterflies as well as a variety of orchids. Cultural sites like the palace at Nyanza and the museum in Butare.
The tour won’t be complete without trekking the mighty mountain gorillas in Parc National des Volcans located north of Rwanda where you will see over 10 families of mountain gorillas while interacting with the surrounding community.
DAY 1 : Travel to Nyungwe National Park
You will embark on a 6 hour journey to Nyungwe forest national park when you arrive in Rwanda. Driving through Kigali is such a rewarding experience where you will see such a clean city which is busy and uphill in terms of its economy. Stop-over breaks can be made along the way for example at Nyanza where the former king of Rwanda once lived which has now become a traditional cultural site.
You have the opportunity to explore Rwanda’s rich culture. Driving past large green fields of tea plantations that surround Nyungwe forest is such an incredible experience. You will spend the night in some of the comfortable and relaxing lodges located in the park for example Gisakura guest house where you will be served with a glorious meal and cared for by very loving and kind staff.
DAY 2 : Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe
Having rested from the journey of day 1, day 2 we shall head out for fun in the forest. With a forest guide, you will embark on a walk through the forest. The forest has a collection of wildlife that will leave you in awe and these include large groups of chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, black and white hornbills and Rwenzori turaco. You may enjoy a picnic lunch with your friends in the forest later in the afternoon then head back to the lodges in the evening to relax and enjoy the quiet night which is usually punctuated by the sounds of the wild that together make a unique sound of rare wild music. You don’t want to miss this, believe me.
DAY 3 : Travel to Kingi on day 3 via Ruhengeri
We head for Kingi on day 3 via Ruhengeri. Driving through Kigali in Butare, we shall visit the museum and also the botanical gardens where you can have something to eat and relax as well. Later we shall head north to Kingi where you will spend the night and prepare for tomorrow. Accommodation is available with exquisite places like Serena Kigali hotel, Hotel gorilla Kigali, Step town hotel to mention but a few.
DAY 4 : Transfer to Parc National des Volcans
day 4 will be characterized with mountain gorilla tracking so early in the morning after a warm early breakfast we shall head to the headquarters of the park for briefing before we head out to the forest to trek the gorgeous mountain gorillas. Depending on the gorilla family you are attached to this can take couples of hours but this is all worth it. Believe me.
DAY 5: Gorilla Trekking in Parc National des Volcans
Today will be a day dedicated to nature and other animals of the wild. Walking through the fairly dark rain forest you will see the amazing golden monkeys that playfully jump from one tree to another time to time. Populations of buffaloes and huge elephants can also be seen wandering about. Bird watching is just made better with the numerous bird species that are found in here.
Game drives are very fun and you cannot miss this. You can always break off for a while to have something to eat and then come back later. In the evening you will get to relax listening to the strange and unique stories from the surrounding community. You even get to participate in the dances.
DAY 6 : Transfer back to kigali
