4 Days Double Gorilla Trekking Safari Uganda Rwanda

This tour starts and ends in the great city of Rwanda- Kigali. It includes gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National park which covers an area of 160 sq km in the northern part of Rwanda, this park is also considered to be oldest park in Africa and its home to over 400 mountain gorillas, 178 bird species, 29 plant species which are endemic. It’s also home to many other wildlife species including; the golden monkeys, elephants, black fronted duikers, bush back and the spotted Hyenas. This park is just 80 kms away from the city and it’s a 2 hours drive to reach the park.

Bwindi impenetrable National park is found in Uganda and is located along the border of DRC near Virunga National Park of Congo. It covers area of 331 sq meters with an altitude ranging from 1,190 to 2,607m above the sea level. This famous national park is also a UNESCO heritage site and was made a national park in 1991. The park is occupied with over 350 mountain gorillas, 348 bird species, 27 species of frogs, 120 mammal species, Colobus monkeys as well as chimpanzees. You will get an opportunity to do double trekking within both National Park of Uganda and Rwanda.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali airport and transfer to Volcanoes National park

On your arrival at Kigali Airport, your guide will meet you and transfer you to Kigali city to have a glimpse of this beautiful city. The city is filled with new developments including the new developed markets were visitors can buy some souvenirs, the genocide memorial site which was mainly constructed to commemorate the 1994 genocide that took place in Rwanda as well as a visit to art galleries. After the city tour, have lunch in one of the local restaurants and enjoy the traditional meals of Rwanda.

Later on transfer to the mighty volcanoes National Park which is only 80 kms from Kigali city and has an altitude of 2400km to 4,507km above the sea level. This park is also dominated by many volcanoes and harbors the tomb of the famous primatologist Dian Fossey who gave up his 20 years caring for the mountain gorillas. Tracking these gentle giants is a memorable experience and coming eye to eye with them is worthwhile rewarding. On arrival to the park, check in to your accommodation option and you await your dinner.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in volcanoes and transfer to Uganda

Have your early morning breakfast at your lodge; your guide will lead you to the park head quarters to be briefed about the dos and the don’ts of gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. This is really an exciting trek which provides good views of the Virunga Mountains in all directions. You will follow a trail that enters the rain forest full of many wildlife species. Some of these include; monkeys, buffalos, elephants, birds and many more.

Later, after a great search for these gentle giants, you will come eye to eye with these wonderful primates and be given a full hour to interact with the gentle giants and also take photos. This is the most exciting experience of this two day safari in Rwanda. You will watch them feed, play and jump all over the trees. After your trek, the rangers will escort you back to the lodge to enjoy your late lunch and you prepare to start your transfer to Bwindi impenetrable National Park. This park has got over 350 mountain gorillas with over 12 families habituated for tracking. On arrival at the park, check in at your accommodation and relax for the evening.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable National Park

Have an early morning breakfast, and after proceed to the park headquarters to have a briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking in Bwindi. The rangers will then accompany you to the rainforest to start your search for the gentle giants. This walk can sometimes be tough and it needs someone so strong. Trekkers are always advised to carry their rain coats and boots because the weather there is always unpredictable. There are also some potters who always help with the carrying of the luggage on behalf of the visitors but at a small cost.

On sighting the gorillas, the rangers will guide you on handle them, especially by giving them a 6 meter distance as you enjoy them play around. It’s always not easy to predict how long gorilla tracking will take and this also depends on the location of some families since some of them are far from the park headquarters. However, it always takes 2 to 8 hours to come into contact with them and the rangers will always be there to guide you. Trackers are also advisable to be physically fit before going for tracking. After your trek, return to the lodge for your lunch and in the after, you may opt to visit the batwa community to enjoy some cultural performances before retiring at your lodge.

Day 4: Transfer to Rwanda for your departure

Have an early morning breakfast at the lodge. After prepare to start your journey back to Rwanda, if time allows, you may opt to visit Gisozi genocide memorial museum which will give you history about the genocide which took place in 1994 in Rwanda. Have your lunch in the city before departing to the airport to catch your flight back home. END OF SAFARI
