4 Days Chimpanzee Trekking Safari Rwanda

Chimpanzees are known to be a species of great apes, and they are mammals which are related to Human beings. These also share 98% of their DNA with that of the human beings which makes them close relatives. The chimpanzees are mostly covered with black hair but baring a bare face and hands. These also weigh between 40 to 45 kgs and usually live in a group size of 15 to 150 individuals. In Rwanda, these primates are found in Nyungwe National Park which is famously known to harbor many different primate species including; the golden monkeys, vervet monkeys, silver monkey, colobus monkeys as well as the grey checked monkeys. The Jane Goodall Institute has done a great job of researching about the chimpanzees and their behaviors as well as their proper conservation.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and have a city tour in Kigali

Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be welcomed by your guide who will transfer you to Kigali city to enjoy your city tour. You will get chance to visit the genocide museum which was purposely constructed to remember the 1994 genocide that took place in Rwanda were lots of people lost life and property. The other attractions include; the local markets to buy some souvenirs, craft shops, pottery projects and many more. You will enjoy your lunch in one of the restaurants in the city and later retire at your booked hotel in the city.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe national Park

Have breakfast at the hotel and after proceed to Nyungwe National Park. This forest which is located in the south western part of Rwanda is the best preserved montane rain forest in Africa. The park was established in 2004 and covers an area of 970km of several vegetation including; bamboo, rain forest, swamps, grassland as well as bogs. The park is filled with variety of wildlife species including; the chimpanzees, golden monkeys, birds, plants, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and many more. As you traverse to park, you might opt to visit the old palace in the Nyanza before reaching the park. Upon your arrival, check in at your lodge and relax for the evening.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking

Have breakfast early in the morning, your guide will drive you to the park head quarters to have a briefing about the dos and the don’ts of chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park. This trek starts at exactly 6:00am and enter the forest to search for the primate species. Have a chance to come eye to eye with the chimps and many monkey species including the silver monkeys, red tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive monkeys as well as the grey cheeked mangabey.the trek will also give you a chance to view many bird species . You will have some good time with the chimpanzees and watch them as the play, feed, and take care of their young ones. After the trek, proceed to your accommodation as you prepare to enjoy a guided walk within the park to view some other wildlife species

Day 4: Departure back to the air port

Breakfast and after start your transfer back to Kigali city, visit the cultural museum of Butare en route. Lunch will be in the city and after transfer to the airport for your departure flight. END OF SAFARI
