This 10 days gorilla and wildlife safari in Uganda & Rwanda safari starts in Uganda and ends in Kigali city of Rwanda. The safari includes two (2) gorilla permits of $600 and $750 in both Uganda and Rwanda. It takes you to the most famous tourist destinations of Uganda and Rwanda. The tours will take you to Queen Elizabeth which is famous for variety of wildlife species including; the antelopes, kobs, tree climbing lions, hippos, leopards and many more. This park was founded in 1952 as kazinga National park and it occupies an area of 1,978 sq meters in the south western Uganda. You will also get chance to track Chimpanzees in Kibale National Park and each permit is sold at $ 150 per person and will be included in the final cost.

The tour also takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable national park which is known to harbor over 340 mountain gorillas and has got 12 habituated mountain gorillas groups, tracking these beautiful gorillas provide a worthwhile experience which cannot be got from anywhere else. While on this safari, you will get a chance to track the golden monkeys in Volcanoes national park as well as mountain gorillas, this national park also have a total of 400 mountain gorillas with 10 habituated families present for the tourists. There is also an opportunity of visiting Dian fossey tomb to see this great primatologist who cared for the mountain gorillas.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport and transfer to Ngamba Island

Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, your guide will welcome you and brief you about the whole safari in both Uganda and Rwanda. He will then transfer you to Ngamba Island which is famous for keeping and protecting orphaned chimpanzees. This sanctuary is located 23km in the south eastern direction of Entebbe in the mighty Lake Victoria. It’s also home to over 40 rescued and orphaned chimps and these provide a worthwhile experience to observe these animal’s behaviors while they play around the sanctuary. You will take a boat from UWEC Entebbe and reach the sanctuary, on arrival; you will view these beautiful primates and after enjoy lunch as you prepare to come back to Entebbe to be transferred to your booked accommodation in Kampala city.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale National Park

After enjoying your break in the morning at your lodge or hotel in Kampala, your guide will drive you to Kibale National Park, this park is located in the southern part of Uganda and it’s a rain forest park covering a size of 766km2 with an altitude of 1, 1100-1600m above sea level. This famous park was gazzatted in 1932 and also established in 1993 in order to protect both vegetation and wildlife species in this area. The park has got over 13 primate species including the chimpanzees, 250 tree species, 325 bird species, 13 species of primates, and 60 mammal species. The chimpanzees permit to see this beautiful creature is sold at $150 by Uganda wildlife Authority and be viewed in the morning hours and in the afternoon.

Along the way, you will stop at the equator to enjoy some photos and also have your lunch at Mbarara town, after proceed to the park arriving in the afternoon, check in at your lodge and after the park ranger will accompany you to the park in order to enjoy a guided nature walk. You will have a chance to view many animal species like the elephants, monkeys, birds and many more. Later after the nature walk, return to the lodge to have your dinner and an overnight.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi Wetland Visit

Early in the morning after taking breakfast, you will go to the park head quarters where you will be briefed about chimpanzee trekking. By 8:00am, you will be starting your search for the chimpanzees within the park. These primates are the closest relatives to the human being and they share 98% of their DNA with that of the human beings.

There are also many other primate species which will be seen along with the chimpanzees and these include; the L’Hoest monkeys, golden monkeys, Black and white colombus monkeys, grey checked Mangabey, red tailed monkeys, the bush babies, and many bird species which include; green breasted pitta, rumped tinker bird, yellow spotted nicator, and the green breasted pitta, this park is one of the great rain forest in Africa and it has the largest community of chimpanzees where by each community has 1 -100 individuals and each community has a complicated social structure.

In the group, the adult males dominate the group and provide protection to the territory against the rest of the males from other territories. The chimps are located by simply listening for their pant hooting calls, and then head to the place from which they replied from. Here you can observe them as they feed, play as well as socializing with each other.

Later in the afternoon, you will visit Bigodi swamp which is also good for watching primates and birds. It’s mainly maintained by the local people and they earn a living from there. You will enjoy many bird species here including; the great blue turaco, and many more, the other primate species to view here include; the baboons, mongoose, otters, bush pigs as well as the bush bucks.

Day 4: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Breakfast will be enjoyed at your lodge and after start your journey to Queen Elizabeth National park which is also famous for many wildlife species including the tree climbing lions, hippos, elephants, buffalos, kobs, antelopes and many bird species, this park is a bird paradise and some of the bird species found in this park include; Long created eagle, hooded vulture, brown snake eagle, African Crake, black bellied bustard and the palm nut vulture.

You will have lunch enroute as you travel, on your arrival at the park, check in at your lodge, and after proceed for a visit to the crater lakes which is Lake Katwe which is famous for salt mining, later in evening, you will engage in an evening game drive where you will view many wildlife species mentioned above.

Day 5: Morning Game drive& a boat cruise on Kazinga channel

We shall wake up so early and proceed to the park to engage in an early morning game drive in the northern sector of the park. This area is commonly known as Kisenyi track , you will search for many wildlife species including; the lions, solitary buffalos, elephants, kobs and birds, these animals will be viewed at a close range since they will be still in their nests were they sleep.

Then return to the lodge to have your breakfast and relax as you wait for your lunch, after this, you will go for a boat trip at kazinga channel were you will be able to view many water animals including the crocodiles, hippos, birds including the saddle billed stork, pied and malachite king fisher’s, the pink backed pelicans and many more.

Day 6: Morning game drive & Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable National Park

Have your breakfast, and after proceed for an early morning game drive within the park, you will view many animal species as mentioned above, we shall drive to Bwindi impenetrable national park which has over 340 mountain gorilla individual with 4 habituated families. This park has also got 120 mammal species, primate species including the chimpanzees, golden monkeys, red tailed monkeys, the L’Hoest Monkey as well as the blue and colobus monkeys. The park also has many bird species as well as butterflies species totaling to 200 in number. The other animal species include; the antelopes, elephants and the bush bucks.

On your arrival at the park, check in at your lodge and after proceed for a short nature walk within the forest to view some wildlife species as mentioned above.

Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Have an early morning breakfast, and after proceed to the park headquarters to have a briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking in Bwindi. The rangers will then accompany you to the rainforest to start your search for the gentle giants. This walk can sometimes be tough and it needs someone so strong. Trekkers are always advised to carry their rain coats and boots because the weather there is always unpredictable. There are also some potters who always help with the carrying of the luggage on behalf of the visitors but at a small cost.

On sighting the gorillas, the rangers will guide you on handle them, especially by giving them a 6 meter distance as you enjoy them play around. It’s always not easy to predict how long gorilla tracking will take and this also depends on the location of some families since some of them are far from the park headquarters. However, it always takes 2 to 8 hours to come into contact with them and the rangers will always be there to guide you. Trackers are also advisable to be physically fit before going for tracking. After your trek, return to the lodge for your lunch and in the after, you may opt to visit the batwa community to enjoy some cultural performances before retiring at your lodge.

Day 8: Cross over to Rwanda

After breakfast, transfer to Rwanda. Cross the border via Kisoro, you will clear at the border and proceed Volcanoes national park which is located in the north west of Rwanda, this national park is also home to over 400 mountain gorillas and has got 10 habituated gorilla groups. You will arrive at the park and check in to your lodge, relax for the evening.

Day 9: Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park

Have your early morning breakfast at your lodge; your guide will lead you to the park headquarters to be briefed about the dos and the don’ts of gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. This is really an exciting trek which provides good views of the Virunga Mountains in all directions. You will follow a trail that enters the rain forest full of many wildlife species. Some of these include; monkeys, buffalos, elephants, birds and many more.

Later, after a great search for these gentle giants, you will come eye to eye with these wonderful primates and be given a full hour to interact with the gentle giants and also take photos. This is the most exciting experience of this two day safari in Rwanda. You will watch them feed, play and jump all over the trees. After your trek, the rangers will escort you back to the lodge to enjoy your late lunch and if you are not tired, you might opt for a batwa community walk and you enjoy a cultural performance for your afternoon.

Day 10: Kigali city & Departure

Enjoy your breakfast and after depart for Kigali city, on your arrival at the city, enjoy a city tour were you will visit many attractions including; the genocide memorial museum which was built in commemoration of the 1994 genocide that took place in Rwanda. You will as well visit the old town of Nyamirambo, the Muslim quarters, the craft shops were you will buy some souvenirs to take back home.
