A 1 day gorilla trekking in Rwanda
Starting from Kigali, a gorilla tour normally starts at 5:00 am with a drive to Kingi Park headquarters located in Ruhengeri (Musanze). The drive takes about 2 to 3 hours therefore our guests are advised and encouraged to spend the night in Ruhengeri to avoid getting very exhausted since they will have to wake so early but nevertheless we have made gorilla trekking in a day a reality. Briefing at the headquarters takes about an hour beginning at 7:30am and thereafter safari vehicles take trackers to various gorilla trek starting points.
The exceptional journey
You will be picked from your lodge or hotel by our company safari guide in Ruhengeri to transfer you to Volcanoes park where the park’s headquarters are for a briefing before the activities can commence in the respective mountain gorilla to which you have been attached to. Our visitors are cautioned not to forget to pack drinking water, lunch as well as some energy giving snacks as time taken to see these mountain gorillas is uncertain at most times. Having seen the gorillas, about an hour will be given to capture the moments and also learn their unique behavior.
In Rwanda unlike in Uganda, tourists are allocated gorilla groups on the day of tracking depending on one’s physical ability. Guests who are physically weak are attached to the nearest groups that do not take a long time to reach.
We endeavor to see and caution every participant who goes tracking to carry with them packed lunch as well as energy giving snacks and enough to drink. Porters to carry bags or someone who gets tired can be available on request.
Depending on the physical ability and the gorilla group you are attached to, the trek might take between 2-6 hours. Waiting for you at the base of Virunga volcanic mountain ranges will be our safari guide until you finish your tour to drive you back to your residence. Not at any moment will you feel abandoned.
Volcanoes National park is famous for its spectacular sights of the undulating volcanoes which include Mount Bisoke, Karisimbi, Sabyinyo, Muhabura and Gahinga. Seven gorilla groups have been habituated for tourism therefore gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes national park is a glorifying experience that everyone ought to experience in their lifetime.
With only 650 mountain gorillas left in the whole world, these awesome creatures can only be seen in Uganda, Congo and Rwanda. The latter is where these gorillas can be seen much easier compared to the other places. You will part with USD 750 to get a permit to see mountain gorillas. One of the top adventure safaris one should make once in Africa is a gorilla trekking safari to see this seemingly endangered gorilla as it is thought that this could be the last generation to be seen. Efforts to save these animals from extinction have been put in place through development of conservation programs which include the International Gorilla Conservation Program, Dian Fossey Foundation, The Gorilla Fund and other related programs.
